Actually, I have worked with WinRAR since the dawn of the Sims 2. The 'trial' is actually the whole program; the 'trial' never runs out. I would know; I have had it running on our family's Windows Vista desktop and only states that its a 'free trial'when you start up the program. No worries.:)Thats the ting, it used to work, but not anymore (in Win8). What is frustrating is that Microsoft promote this by directing custumers from their official store to a sale page that is not even the ownwer of the program WinRar. I tried Win-Rar, and it did expire, I've downloaded UnCompress, and several others.
Here's the thing. Why do NONE of them work the way Win Zip or others used to work in Windows XP and even in Windows 7?!? Even when I had WinRar and it worked, it wasso damned un-wieldy it takes 2 minutes to do a 10 second thing. Why oh why, if Win 8 is an App platform where anyone in the world can create an app and run on my PC, do THEY ALL LOOK THE SAME AND NONE OF THEM WORK??!!!!!!why can't I click on a file and say 'unzip/extract to here?' Or 'unzip to folder'?
This is probably because of the when it comes to quotation of arguments. Whenever you call system('arg1' 'arg2'), it is equivalent to calling: cmd.exe /c 'arg1' 'arg2'Because of the strange behavior as described in the linked post, this will not be interpreted correctly by Command Prompt.

An extra set of quotes is needed: cmd.exe /c 'arg1' 'arg2'For invoking executables, provides an alternative that gives you more control over the process. You'll still have to quote the arguments but the as the Command Prompt is no longer in your way.
