Rear door: - Are the child locks on the side of the door engaged?I don't think the child-safety locks are engaged on either rear door and the rear doors can't be opened from the outside or the inside.- Bob.

Hi Bob, I have exactly the same problem with my X5. Did you find a fix? Thanks, JennyThanks for the reply. Thanks Scott, I will check into this.It all started out as all 4 doors wouldn't unlock. None of the malfunction operations would work to unlock it. We managed to wedge the pax door open (at top) and lifted the handles from the inside (didnt work) and pushed the unlock button between the seats (made a locking sound then stopped responding to being pushed).

We then made a curved rod with the valet key taped to it. We put the key in the ignition and turned it on. We rolled down the windows and the doors unlocked in the front only.Currently-1.

The front 2 doors will open and close, but not lock2. The back 2 doors are stuck locked3.

The key remote will not work.4. The push button lock between the 2 seats does not respond5. The back trunk (top piece) does not open from the back, but will open from the push button in the dash6.

The back tail gate piece does work from the back.7. The gas tank will not open8. The hazardes DO work along with all dome lights, wipers and windowsIs it the central locking system or the GM5 thing???:mad:Jenny-Odds are the central locking switch housing is broken. It's a poor design and the little tabs on the bottom break off and the switch wont stay together. It can be repaired with superglue; a new switch is about $50.This is a common problem on the E46 (3-series) and the E53 (X5).Do your 4-way/hazard flashers still work? If not, this is almost certainly your problem - same switch.

The battery is working well and now the wipers stopped working. I dont think it is an actuator, as it is all doors. They are basically dead. Does this have the GM 3 module? Its a 2001 X5 3.0.

Is it located in the door or behind the glovebox? Thanks for your time:thumbup:Dunno about the module, never had one go bad.Wiper issues are common; check the 3 bolts that connect the wiper motor to the linkage. The front bolt loosens and prevents them from working.

Tighten all three and they'll prob work fine. :dunno:Gremlins:dunno: isn't the word for it. Hi to everybody,I was wondering if anyone could help. I changed the car battery on my BMW X5 (2006) and the central locking is not working. Managed to lock the car manually, with difficulties, but the following morning I managed to unlock but ever since neither way of locking is not working.

The central locking on console is working, locking all doors, including the drivers door, as well as locking the same automatically when you set off driving. The boot is opening on the dash board but not with a key.

I am aware for the newer models you need tuning, but not for this one. I check the key, is okey and sending the signal! Hey jenjencherie - did you find a solution to this? I was hoping the dealer would know what to do but they too can't open the door thus I'm asking help.

BTW, I have a 2003 X5.

I had the same problem with my 2001 740i (E38), after the cable broke when I pulled on it going to Home Depot. It would still open from the outside but it was a hassle. I ordered a used one from Ebay from an older model E38 and it was shorter, but I still installed it. I figured that it would just open quicker, with less of a pull.

After putting the panel and the inside handle back, it opened fine, but ones I parked and try opening it, it would not open from either side, so I had to get out through the passenger's side. I read that many people removed the seat and did other laborious things to other models, but it is not possible to remove the panel on a E38 if the door isn't open. So when I thought of the door opening when the inside door handle cable broke, I decided to cut the inside cable (remember, this was shorter than the original one) at the handle, voala! The door opened from the outside. I guess the reason it won't open, it's because the inside level is stuck in the open position, so it will not allow the outside handle to open it.

It's like trying to open it from both sides at the same time. I am not saying this is the same scenario than everyone's, but it is what worked for me without having to remove other unnecessary parts or spend a few hundred dollars having a shop replace it. My local dealer charged me about $50 for a new one and problem solved. Hope it helps you guys.
